Group Policy for beginners; Microsoft white paper on Windows Server 2008 GPMC basics

Microsoft recently released a 26 page white paper about basic concepts of Group Policy based on Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7. This PDF document is basically a beginners guide on Group Policy Management Console.

The document contains overview of GPMC and essential Group Policy concepts, basic group policy tasks such as creating and editing GPOs.

Windows Server: Configuring IPv4 address using command line

Command line tool ‘Netsh’ can be used to set up IP address and DNS address for the server. This option will be useful especially for Server Core version of Windows Server 2008.

Run the below command line syntax to configure IP address:

Netsh interface ipv4 set address name=”Local Area Connection” source=static address=192.168.10.5 mask=255.255.255.0 gateway=192.168.10.1

Windows Server: How to rename computer using command line?

Command line tool ‘Netdom’ can be used to rename a computer in a domain. It is particularly useful for Server Core version of Windows Server 2008 as there is no GUI option with it.
